I have been a Customer of Pro Optical for about 10 years and continued to come back because of the great doctors, even after I moved out of the neighborhood. Today I was about 15 minutes late to my appointment; while I arrived on time to the office I struggled to find parking (I did call ahead). When I arrived at the front desk I let them know I was late and they said they would have to cancel my appointment and rebook me - I let them know that at this point the parking and commute was overwhelming and I should probably go to another practice closer to me. I asked for a copy of the script and some extra contacts I had set aside ahead of time. At this point just kind of bummed to have to find another doctor.

However, at this point the woman at the front desk goes off on me about a history of missed or no show appointments in front of a crowded lobby while shaking her head - being super passive aggressive.

I informed her to my knowledge I only had ONE because I had a medical emergency the day of my appointment which required surgery and I did call the office as I was getting wheeled off for surgery. Again, like 20 other people are around as we had to discuss of my emergency medical procedure. I asked for the dates of the other no show appointments and she just stared at me… because there are none. I asked for a manager at that point.

I then had to wait for another 5 minutes for a manager to come out, she said she had just come in and had no idea what was going on. I let her know that while I fully owned being late there was no reason to be chastised for missing my last appointment and that I did call and explain why on that day - if they don’t have notes that’s on them. I didn’t appreciate being outted in public in a busy lobby area full of other patients for what should have been my private health information - it was absolutely uncalled for.

She kept saying sorry and also she had no idea what was going on - which just signaled to me this was an insincere interaction.

Other words were exchanged but I have strong doubts if any of them really registered the fact that sometimes people miss appointments because life happens and they need to maintain better notes in their own system.

I am sorry but the front desk service has changed post Covid and Boston has no shortage of great doctors - the service used to really stand out but now it’s for all of the wrong reasons.

My husband and I visited this location to inquire about prescription eyeglasses. We were asked if we had insurance, we said that we were not sure and Danielle C reassured us that she would be able to check that using our names. She told us that we did not and said that each pair would start at around $370. The following day we visited LensCrafters at CambridgeSide. The gentleman there told us the same thing; that he would be able to see if we had a vision plan using just our names. In contrast to the lady from Pro Optical, he did find our insurance policy and we ended up paying around $130 for each pair (down from around $550 for each pair!!). Feel free to draw your own conclusions!
PS. Before we left she told us to schedule an appointment next time!

I have NEVER ever written a review about anything before but this place made me want to. This place is absolutely AMAZING. I have been to other eye doctors before and nothing compares. Dr Cheryl DePaulo Jost is THE best optician that I have ever seen and I have been wearing glasses practically since birth she is incredible kind, smart, and humble. She one thousand percent knows exactly what you need for eyewear and will provide you with the best prescription you have had in your life. She really takes the time to make sure that your prescription is the one that you need. She is exceptional at what she does and really makes you feel comfortable and welcomed. All of the other staff is kind and helpful. I had Linda help me who is also amazing! She was an amazing optician and was very funny and incredibly helpful to pick out the frames that suit you best. She was a blast to work with and really missed her calling as a comedian! I have nothing but respect for this establishment. The best out there. I just found my eye doctor for life!!!

After going to the same eye doctor for 19 years, it was time to change to be closer to my new office. So glad to have found the folks at Pro Optical. All around an exceptional experience, easy to order new contacts, and wonderful selection of eyeglasses. The Pro Optics team could not have been more helpful and friendly.

What a wonderful office. I was able to see the doctor at the time of my appointment-which for a medical practice is always a bonus. Linda, the professional that helped me find glasses was amazing. She was patient and informative as I strived to achieve my new look! I would definitely recommend this practice.

Very unprofessional…. Showed up at 4:35pm to get glasses with my little daughter… they told me they are closing in half an hour and it will take too long, so they shut the door in my face . Not a nice way to deal with customers. Not coming back

Can’t believe I haven’t left a review yet! I’ve been coming here for yeeaars!! Met Dr. Smith when he still at LensCrafters at the Galleria mall, (totally giving my age here haha) followed him to Pro Optical and the experience has been amazing as ever with every visit! Dr. Bao-Kim is awesome! Always full of energy & great memory ?. Sandra the receptionist, super professional & knowledgeable - I always tell her what are they going to do if she ever leaves hahah. She is one of the few people who can actually pronounce my full name (despite my 1-2 yearly appearances) which always takes me by surprise haha. I’ve made my brother come here too, 10/10 forever recommend <3

Sketchy business and potential insurance fraud! Avoid!

1. In-network. Charged me a co-pay when my insurance covers 100% of the annual eye exams and refraction. On my insurance benefits, everything is covered by insurance and I owe nothing to ProOptical.

2. Tricked me into paying a contact lense fitting fee when my contacts brand and prescription didn’t change at all! Note: When they tell you to toss your contacts away during the eye exam because they will give you a new pair to wear later, don’t listen to them! They don’t tell you upfront that the contacts they give you will be counted towards contacts fitting fee. They are supposed to only do the fitting when you want to try out a new brand! The optometrist are just trying to scam you to pay $49 for 5 pairs of contacts. Ridiculous! Later, when I checked my insurance benefits, they didn’t not go through my insurance about the contact lense fitting because my insurance allows a lower amount of co-pay. How is this not insurance fraud?
